Malagasy Designs came from a class, called Sustainability and Conversation in Madagascar, taught by Professor Judi McLean Parks. Our team consisted of an interdisciplinary group of students at Washington University.
Through research, and the success of the Blessing Basket prosperity model, we decided that a successful way to bring additional income to the members of Mahabo, Madagascar, would be to design and have them sell woven jewelry.
While in Mahabo, our team communicated directly with the family of women we were working with, in order to make sure we were keeping their best interest in mind. After working with them for about a week and a half, we designed many different variations of jewelry for them to sell at the local market.
